Lamprey and Steelhead Surveyor Orientation 2019 (VENUE HAS CHANGED)

Help Johnson Creek Watershed Council document the distribution of native fish species in Johnson Creek. Biologists from ODFW (Ryan and Alex), lamprey expert from Friends of Tryon Creek (Gabe), and JCWC Community Science staff (Adrienne) will provide training and resources you need for hands-on scientific monitoring experience!
When:
- Orientation is Saturday, February 16th from 10am-12:30pm. (You are also invited on a subsequent site visit! JCWC and experienced surveyors on Johnson Creek to get a glimpse into what your survey will look like, and have any other questions answered.
- Volunteers are paired up on 2-3 surveys following orientation, between February and May. Surveys usually take place on a Saturday morning or afternoon walking and watching the creek to collect important data.

Surveys are scheduled at various stretches on the creek, Adrienne fills you in on all the details so you know when and where!
How the surveys work: Each survey takes approximately 3 hours to complete. There are also stationary observation sites, where volunteers can bring binoculars and look for fish sightings from banks or bridges. Some volunteer surveyors will walk directly in the stream, some choose to stay on the bank. You have the power to decide what is the best choice based on your ability and the weather. Participants with limited mobility or a disability are welcome to participate at stationary observation sites. Please contact Adrienne to learn more!
