MLK Day Habitat Restoration

Jan 21, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

On the 2019 Martin Luther Kind Jr. Day of Service, volunteer your time to improve habitat at Indian Creek Natural Area! We will focus on removing English Ivy in order to enhance habitat quality for this natural area. Ivy can smother and weigh down trees, so we will perform tree “lifesavers” to save the trees, which provide habitat for wildlife, shade the creek, and improve ecosystem health. Be ready to work hard with your community on this day of service!

Martin Luther King Junior dedicated his life to service and selflessness. To honor his legacy, we will participate in reflective conversation and activities in addition to our restoration work. Please join us!

WHEN- Monday, January 21, 2019 from 9am-1pm

Where: Indian Creek Natural Area, Portland OR

Driving: 10368 SE Knapp St, Portland, OR 97266

Searching Knapp Falls on Google maps will also take you to the correct location in SE Portland, East of I-205. Street parking available.

Tri-met: Bus #19 (I-205 Overpass stop) or Green line MAX (Flavel stop). Pass under the I-205 Overpass, then walk southeast 200 feet on Mt. Scott Blvd. (Flavel becomes Mt. Scott Blvd. as you walk east), then east on SE Knapp for ¼ mile. Indian Creek is on your right.

What to Bring: Our events are rain or shine! Please dress for the weather: warm and rain layers, sturdy shoes, and feel free to bring a water bottle or coffee mug to fill up. We will provide snacks, beverages, tools and training.

Who: Everyone is welcome, and this is a family friendly event! If you are under 18 and are planning to attend without a parent or guardian, your parent will need to sign a waiver which you will bring with you to the event. Contact [email protected] to get this waiver!

Not all volunteer positions are physically demanding! We have jobs for multiple abilities. Typical jobs include: Helping people sign in at the registration table, photography/videography, and litter pick-up are typically other options.

Big thank you to our partner Portland Parks and Recreation, and The Mintkeski Family Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation and Portland General Electric for their generous funding of the volunteer program.
