About this Event
Birders, come participate in a survey project to help assess the impact of restoration and other activities on prairie-nesting birds at Powell Butte! This is the third year of bird surveys . Come to the virtual training to learn protocols and sign up for two or more early morning surveys during April, May, and June. Data entry is easy: we use the online platform eBird. This project is a joint project of Portland Parks & Recreation, Conservation Insight and Johnson Creek Watershed Council.
Volunteers must have intermediate or greater birding ID skills and must use their own binoculars. All data collection is done via eBird, so there are no paper forms. Volunteers must create their own eBird.org account prior to the orientation and will do data entry with the free, downloadable eBird smartphone app. Volunteers are asked to commit to two or more survey dates. Each survey takes 30-45 minutes and you’ll do two per day.
You’re invited BOTH Friday April 2nd 8am-9am AND Thursday, April 8th 7:30-8:30am, for the in person required orientation and training on the specific protocols.
If you’re not as confident on your bird ID, but would still like to participate, please join our virtual training. We’ll either pair you with a more experienced birder or you can be part of a larger group survey.
Survey date sign ups will be a part of orientation, so bring your calendars, please!
