Salmon Surveyor Orientation
Oct 15, 2015 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Help Johnson Creek Watershed Council document the distribution of salmon species through Johnson Creek. Biologists from Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and JCWC Staff will provide training and answer questions. Light refreshments will be provided.
Please arrive by 5:45 to be signed in at Orientation.
How the surveys work: Volunteers will walk selected sections of Johnson Creek in pairs a minimum of one weekend between October 17th and December 12th, searching for salmon and evidence of spawning. Waders and necessary equipment are provided. Allow 2-3 hours per survey. There are also several static observation sites, where volunteers can bring binoculars and look for fish sightings from banks or bridges.
Important note: Some volunteer surveyors will walk directly in the stream during winter flows, which can be difficult. Volunteers must be sure-footed, and have full mobility to participate in this activity.
RSVP required for training. Contact Danielle at [email protected] or call 503-652-7477. Please indicate if you are signing up with your own survey partner.
