Garlic Mustard Internship

Title: Johnson Creek Invasive Species Control Intern

Reports to: Noah Jenkins – Riparian Program Manager

Status: Monthly stipend with potential for hourly wage. More info to come during interview process. Schedule is flexible. Intern would complete 40 hours or more preferably. Work days are set during the week dependent on cohort schedules.

Location: Various, throughout the Johnson Creek watershed

Purpose:

Johnson Creek Invasive Species Control Interns will work in priority private and public natural areas that harbor garlic mustard ( Alliaria petiolata ), an invasive species that threatens the health of riparian areas throughout the Johnson Creek watershed. With training, Johnson Creek Invasive Species Control Interns will identify and remove this species under the supervision of the Riparian Program Manager. Interns will gain experience with invasive species control methods, habitat restoration, fieldwork, landowner outreach, environmental nonprofit management, and more.

Position Description:

Working as part of the Garlic Mustard Task Force, a Johnson Creek Invasive Species Control Intern will survey private and public natural areas in the watershed, identify and remove invasive garlic mustard at least three times a month, for eight hours at a time, over a period of three months.

General Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):

● Attend orientation/training in early April at a socially-distanced, in-person capacity (exact date and time TBD)

● Commit to 40 hours of volunteer service over the course of three months

● Be prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions

● Report to sites on time and prepared for the conditions (appropriate gear, etc.)

● Report hours and work quantifiables monthly to JCWC
