Sustainability Outreach Intern
Hours: 10-20 hours a week
Time Commitment: 6 month minimum, one year preferred
Pay: Unpaid Internship or educational credit, graduate or undergraduate level
Supervisor: Executive Director
Location: Office in NE Portland and Remote.
Description:
The Sustainability Outreach Intern will assist the agency in outreach and the sustainable development of the organization. This may include and not be limited to assisting with volunteer recruitment and support, program and organizational development and social media outreach.
This will be a learning opportunity to gain hands-on experience with an environmental justice nonprofit organization, while making a difference for Groundwork and the communities we serve.
Intern Position Requirements:
• Commitment to the mission and goals of Groundwork Portland
• Ability to engage in positive, professional manner with diverse populations, including project participants, partners, volunteers, and the general public
• Strong communication skills
• Regular and reliable attendance
• Self-motivated and the ability to work independently and manage time effectively
• Flexible schedule to include some weekends and/or evening hours
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
• Passion for learning about social justice and environmental justice
Intern Responsibilities:
• Assistance in the recruitment, coordination and support of volunteers
• Schedule and facilitate community education and outreach speaking engagements
• Assist with the event planning and volunteer recognition
• Assist in website updates and social media outreach
• Potentially assist or create other projects dependent on agencies needs and interns ability
Preferred Qualifications (not required):
• Experience working with diverse communities, particularly communities of color and low income populations
• Bi-lingual/bi-cultural
• Experience with community organizing and outreach
• Website development and social media skills
