Johnson Creek-Willamette River Confluence Salmon Habitat Enhancement Project

Project Overview

This project is located at the Willamette River and Johnson Creek confluence in downtown Milwaukie. It will provide improved habitat complexity for numerous species, including federally listed Chinook and Coho salmon, and Steelhead trout in the Johnson Creek and Willamette River basins.

Project Objectives

  • Create/enhance in-stream habitat for fish
  • Create off-channel refugia for juvenile salmonids
  • Increase floodplain connectivity
  • Improve riparian and upland plant communities

Project Design

Proposed treatments for habitat improvements include:

  • Placement of stable large wood structures
  • Re-placement of boulders to form clusters in-channel
  • Revegetation with native plants

Construction is scheduled for summer 2011. Documents detailing project design features and proposed salmon habitat are now available.
