Sneak Peak- Videos from the Creek

In January of 2018, we started incubating the concept for a video project for the council. We wanted to make easily digestible, beautiful content about the Johnson Creek community available for learning and storytelling. We got so incredibly lucky to work with some rock star interns who have spent the last year and a half conceptualizing, storymapping, shooting footage, interviewing, editing, producing, and directing some truly wonderful pieces to share with you. From borrowing or purchasing all of their own equipment, to honing their lighting and audio skills, to working with our long standing professional photography partner, Bruce MacGregor to capture some really incredible drone footage, the process has been so inspiring to watch develop as a labor of love for the watershed.

We had a National Geographic videographer, David Pickar, approach us looking for a project for his Master Naturalist certification in 2017, and he became a helpful mentor to get our intern team, Will and Sam, on their feet with some technical advice and conceptual coaching from his years working in the field.

Our two videography interns have worked as a collaborative team over the course of this time, and we have loved getting to know them and seeing the quality of their work deepen and flow through the process. William Floor is a film student at PSU with a minor in sustainability, Will loves shooting imagery of water, especially using his go-pro. He hopes to become an environmental documentary filmmaker. Will especially loves capturing time lapse and other landscape focused imagery, and as a DJ, also loves the audio side of video.

Sam Friedman is a self-taught videographer who majored in economics at the University of Puget Sound, is a lifelong lover of film and storytelling, and worked on a documentary about the Mississippi River during his time there. Sam delved into capturing personal interviews and developed excellent film editing skills for our upcoming videos.
