SUMMARY:2025 Watershed Wide Event
DESCRIPTION:Sign-up today for Johnson Creek Watershed Council’s most unified restoration event of the year! The Watershed Wide Event is happening Saturday\, March 1st from 8:45am -12noon. We will spread out at 8 simultaneous work parties throughout the watershed. Stick around at the end for a free lunch! \nJohnson Creek is a unique waterway\, providing home and habitat to lots of special wildlife and a lot of human communities. This event is a great time to come together and care for the creek and watershed as we weed\, plant and mulch helping to restore a healthier watershed.  For nearly 50 years\, local residents have dedicated their time and energy to restore\, repair\, and clean Johnson Creek. We are proud to have been part of this legacy for the past 29 years. Be a part of the legacy!  \nRSVP IS REQUIRED. Site choices are below. Click on the name of the site you would like to volunteer at and fill out the waiver to register.  \nWant to register a group? Reach out to Marlee@jcwc.org to get matched with the right site! \nNot interested in planting native plants but still want to help? There are jobs for multiple abilities and talents! We need helpers to pick up and deliver lunch to all of the sites\, photographers\, and helpers to get food to the sites in the morning. If you are interested in any of these Special Jobs\, please sign up HERE! \n  \nWhen: Saturday\, March 1st from 8:45am -12:00 noon\, free lunch provided at the end \nWhere: Choose your desired site (below). After you sign the waiver\, directions will be sent to your email inbox.  \nHow to prepare: This event will happen rain or shine\, so dress for weather: rain coat\, warm layers\, sun hat\, and sunscreen as necessary. Wear sturdy\, close-toed shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring a filled water bottle and a snack. \nWhat we will provide: Gloves\, all necessary tools and instructions\, plus snacks\, coffee and a free lunch at the end of the event. We can also provide bus fare to and from the event. Please contact info@jcwc.org to arrange bus fare.  \nHealthy and Safety: We will follow current Oregon Health Authority guidelines. Masks are not required\, but encouraged in indoor spaces where social distancing is not possible. Stay home if you are experiencing symptoms of any contagious illness or have had recent contact with someone exhibiting symptoms of any illness. \nChildren are welcome with an attentive adult: Youth 16 and younger MUST be accompanied by an adult\, youth 16-18 may come unaccompanied but need a waiver signed by a parent or guardian.  \nAccessibility: All sites will require standing for long periods of time\, walking over uneven ground\, going up and down steep slope bending\, and lifting heavy objects. Turn off of SE Johnson Creek Boulevard and park along the street on Brookside Dr. or find an open Visitor parking spot (indicated with a V) in the parking lot for Brookside Apartments. \n  \nSite Full: Creek Care Property\nThank you volunteers! \n  \nSite Full: Luther Road\nThank you volunteers! \n  \nFoster Floodplain Natural Area\nProject: Planting bare root native plants in a wetland. The planting area will have standing water so volunteers are encouraged to wear waterproof boots. The event will also include litter pickup. \nMeeting Location & Parking: The address for the park is 10602 SE Foster Rd\, Portland\, OR 97266. There is a small parking lot on Foster Rd. If there is no parking available in the parking lot or along Foster Road when you arrive\, please continue on Foster Road\, turn right at the next intersection (SE 110 th Drive)\, crossover Johnson Creek and take the first right onto SE Cooper Street. Drive to the end of Cooper Street. Parking is along Cooper Street. Watch for No Parking signs\, and be aware not to block neighbor’s driveways. DESCRIPTION:THIS EVENT IS CANCELLED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER. \nJoin the City of Gresham and the Johnson Creek Watershed Council for a morning of stewardship and land tending! We’ll be at the Walters Dr. site in Gresham\, near the Springwater Trail. No experience necessary! \nCLICK HERE TO RSVP \nWhen: Saturday\, February 15th\, 10 am-1 pm \nWhere: The Walters Dr. site in Gresham. The nearest address is 291 SW 4th St\, Gresham\, OR 97080. The coordinates are 45.495720\, -122.434765 (45° 29′ 45″\, -122° 26′ 5″). We will meet at the intersection of Walters Dr. and the Springwater Trail. \nWhat: We will be planting live willow\, cottonwood\, ninebark and dogwood stakes. Tasks may shift as needs change on the site. \nHow to prepare: This event will happen rain or shine\, so dress for the weather! Wear long thick pants\, a long-sleeved shirt\, and sturdy shoes you don’t mind getting muddy. Bring a raincoat or a hat and sunscreen\, as appropriate. Bring a filled water bottle and snacks. You’re welcome to bring gloves and tools\, if you want to use your own. \nWhat we provide: Gloves and all necessary tools\, and instruction on how to safely use tools and remove invasive weeds. We can also provide bus fare to and from the event. Please contact sima@jcwc.org to arrange bus fare. \nHealth and Safety: We will follow current Oregon Health Authority guidelines. Masks are not required\, but encouraged in indoor spaces where social distancing is not possible. This work is around and near sharp prickly plants and can be challenging for young children. We work with thousands of volunteers each year and with a small staff\, we can’t function without the community support of volunteers like you to teach and lead in our restoration events! \nThere is a two-part training required to join the 2025 Creek Crew cohort.  See “How do I Join” section below to register for the training.  \nWhen: \nOnline Webinar: Thursday January 30th 6 – 7:30pm \nIn-person Training: Saturday February 1st 10am-2:30pm with a 30 minute break for lunch (not provided) \nBoth trainings are required for new and returning Creek Crew Leaders \nWhere: \nThursday Webinar: Zoom  \nSaturday In-person Training: Powell Butte Nature Park (directions below) \nWhat do Creek Crew Leaders do: \nCreek Crew leaders choose at least 4 volunteer days a year to help guide small groups of volunteers for our native plantings\, invasive species and trash removal parties throughout the year. They are also a crucial element of our larger events such as our Watershed Wide Event (March 1st) and the Johnson Creek Clean-Up (August 16th). \nOur Creek Crew Leaders are the reason JCWC is able to plant 5\,000 native plants and pull 6 tons of trash out of the creek every year – we couldn’t do it without you! \nWhy be a Creek Crew Leader: \n\nHave fun outdoors with cool people!\nDevelop and practice leadership skills\nLearn about ecology and restoration practices \nGain familiarity with Pacific Northwest plant and animal species\nMake friends and professional connections from diverse backgrounds\nGet a reference for applications to college\, jobs\, or scholarships\nReceive sweet Johnson Creek swag\n\nWho are Creek Crew Leaders:  \n\nA new or returning Johnson Creek Watershed Council volunteer\nOver 16 – OR – you are under 16 but paired with a parent or guardian as a Creek Crew team\nExcited to attend at least 4 volunteer events (especially Watershed Wide Event\, March 1st and/or Johnson Creek Cleanup in August)\nAble to fill out a PP&R code of conduct\, volunteer application\, and background check\n\n* We work on PP&R sites in much of our habitat enhancement. SUMMARY:EVENT FULL - MLK Day of Service and Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:Our land tending event is full\, we still encourage you to donate to a BIPOC led organization.\nDue to staff capacity if you show up to the service event without prior registration you will be turned away.  \n  \nDr. Martin Luther King Junior dedicated his life to advancing civil rights and fighting racism and oppression. To honor his legacy\, we will be fundraising for BIPOC led organizations working for racial justice and leading a land tending event at Powell Butte.  \nWe know that groups and individuals often look for service opportunities on Dr. MLK Jr. day\, and our organization has long held an event on this day of service. If you would like to participate\, we encourage everyone to volunteer AND DONATE to a BIPOC led group working for racial justice.  \nNot sure who to support?
