SUMMARY:Errol Heights Bird Walk with Jeff Marks
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the newly renovated Errol Heights Park for a bird walk with ornithologist Jeff Marks. Explore new features throughout the park and habitats designed for a variety of terrestrial and aquatic birds. Jeff has graduate degrees in Wildlife Biology (breeding ecology of Long-eared Owls) and Zoology (nonbreeding ecology of Bristle-thighed Curlews). He has more than 60  journal publications on birds and is the senior author of Birds of Montana in addition to being the Executive Director of the Montana Bird Advocacy. \n\n\n\nCLICK HERE TO RVSP \n\n\n\nWhat: Bird Walk  at Errol Heights Park with Jeff Marks \n\n\n\nWhen: Saturday\, March 16th\, from 7:30 am – 8:30pm \n\n\n\nWhere: Errol Heights City Park (directions emailed after registration). \n\n\n\nWhat to bring: Bring a filled water bottle and binoculars. \n\n\n\nWhat to wear: Dress for the weather! SUMMARY:Habitat Enhancement at Leach Botanical Garden
DESCRIPTION:Join us in removing invasive weeds from the Leach Botanical Garden! This work helps to create new spaces and supports our collaborative Back 5 educational project. No experience necessary! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSince 2018 Johnson Creek Watershed Council has been working with a group of partners to restore 5 acres on the east side of Leach Botanical Garden that borders Johnson Creek. The partnership includes: Wisdom of the Elders\, Inc\, African Youth Community Organization\, The Blueprint Foundation\, David Douglas High School\, Leach Botanical Garden\, along with help from experts at Portland Parks and Recreation\, and many dedicated volunteers.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe created an awesome video and website to share what is going on with the project and partnership. You’re welcome to bring gloves and tools\, if you want to use your own. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat to wear: Dress for the weather! Wear long thick pants\, a long-sleeved shirt\, and sturdy\, close-toed shoes you don’t mind getting muddy. Bring a raincoat or a hat and sunscreen\, as appropriate.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat we provide: Gloves\, tools\, and instruction on how to safely use tools and remove invasive weeds. SUMMARY:2024 Watershed Wide Event
DESCRIPTION:Save the date for Johnson Creek Watershed Council’s most unified restoration event of the year! The Watershed Wide Event is happening Saturday\, March 2nd from 8:45am -12noon. We will spread out at 10 simultaneous work parties throughout the watershed. Stick around at the end for a free lunch.Johnson Creek is a unique waterway\, providing home and habitat to lots of special wildlife and a lot of human communities. This event is a great time to come together and care for the creek and watershed as we weed\, plant and mulch helping to restore a healthier watershed.  For the past 28 years\, JCWC has been proud to participate in a community dedicated to restoring\, repairing\, and cleaning Johnson Creek. Be a part of the legacy!  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPLEASE RSVP. Site choices are below. Click on the name of the site you would like to volunteer at and fill out the waiver to register. Want to organize a team? Email info@jcwc.org.Not interested in planting native plants but still want to help? There are jobs for multiple abilities and talents! We need helpers to pick up and deliver lunch to all of the sites\, photographers\, and helpers to get coffee and snacks to the sites in the morning. To honor his legacy\, we will be fundraising for BIPOC led organizations working for racial justice and leading a habitat enhancement event at Powell Butte.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe know that groups and individuals often look for service opportunities on Dr. MLK Jr. day\, and our organization has long held an event on this day of service. If you would like to participate\, we encourage everyone to volunteer AND DONATE to a BIPOC led group working for racial justice. We recognize that people have different abilities to donate. DESCRIPTION:Join us in removing invasive weeds from the Leach Botanical Garden! This work helps to create new spaces and supports our collaborative Back 5 educational project. No experience necessary! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSince 2018 Johnson Creek Watershed Council has been working with a group of partners to restore 5 acres on the east side of Leach Botanical Garden that borders Johnson Creek. The partnership includes: Wisdom of the Elders\, Inc\, African Youth Community Organization\, The Blueprint Foundation\, David Douglas High School\, Leach Botanical Garden\, along with help from experts at Portland Parks and Recreation\, and many dedicated volunteers.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe created an awesome video and website to share what is going on with the project and partnership. SUMMARY:Depave Event at Trinity Lutheran Church
DESCRIPTION:Join us with our partners at Depave to remove impermeable asphalt from the parking lot at the Trinity Lutheran Church. In the spring\, we will return to the site to plant rain gardens in replacement of the pavement. This project will reduce the water that flows from the City storm drains and into Johnson Creek\, helping to reduce pollution\, oil and trash from entering the creek. Our partners at Depave will train everyone on the best way to safely remove pavement for the day! No experience necessary! \nPre-registration is required\, we expect this event to fill quickly! \nCLICK HERE TO RSVP\nWhat: Removing asphalt from the parking lot to help reduce pollutants from entering the creek.  \nWhen: Saturday\, October 21st from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm with a break for lunch\, burrito lunch included! \nWhere: Trinity Lutheran Church located at 507 W Powell Blvd\, Gresham\, OR 97030. Designated parking can be accessed through the NW Ava Ave driveway. Additional street parking can be found along NW Ava Ave. \nHow to prepare: This event will happen rain or shine\, so dress for weather: rain coat\, warm layers\, sun hat\, and sunscreen as necessary. Wear sturdy\, close-toed shoes\, long pants and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring a filled water bottle. \nWe will provide: Gloves\, and all necessary tools and instruction for the day. We can also provide bus fare to and from the event. Please contact monica@jcwc.org to arrange bus fare. We will also provide coffee\, and snacks.  \nHealth and Safety: We will follow current Oregon Health Authority guidelines. Masks are not required\, but encouraged in indoor spaces where social distancing is not possible. Stay home if you are experiencing symptoms of any contagious illness or have had recent contact with someone exhibiting symptoms of any illness. \nYouth 14 years and older are welcome and must be accompanied by an attentive adult.  \nAccessibility: This event requires walking and standing for multiple hours\, lifting large pieces of asphalt up to 50 lbs.\, pushing wheelbarrows\, bending and squatting. SUMMARY:Sunday Parkways at Foster Floodplains
DESCRIPTION:East Portland Sunday Parkways will once again include the Foster Floodplain Natural Area. The 63-acre Foster Floodplain Natural Area is located just south of SE Foster Road between SE 104th and SE 111th avenues\, near the Springwater Corridor Trail.  Make sure you stop by and get your fish hat.  There will be lots of other fun activities including Audubon\’s Birds of Prey\, food\, music by Train River\, and basic mechanics by Bike Farm.  Take some time to walk or bike the trail and learn about Johnson Creek. \nSee  the SunPkwys ePoster 2014.
