SUMMARY:Nature in the City art exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Nature in the City \n\nAn Art Exhibit by Portland Print Maker\, Gracie Campbell \nOpening Reception\, Reschedule for: Thursday\, Feb 13\, 2014\n6pm-8pm\n \nFeaturing a special Presentation by\nMatt Clark\, Executive Director of Johnson Creek Watershed Council \nPresentation at 6:30 followed by a reception \nArt on exhibit through February 29\, 2014 \nFree and Open to the public \n“Nature in the City” was created to bring awareness to the natural areas preserved in our urban neighborhoods and to celebrate the inseparable bond between these green treasures and human creative expression. \nGracie Campbell\, Portland print maker\, takes her inspiration from the natural areas in her neighborhood\, most especially Reed canyon. Located in the heart of Reed College campus\, the canyon is a 28-acre watershed. It includes the headwaters of Crystal Springs Creek and Reed Lake (deemed the oldest naturally occurring lake in Portland). This unique watershed\, rich in natural beauty and wildlife\, has provided Gracie with unlimited subject matter for years of print making. \nMatt Clark\, executive director of Johnson Creek Watershed Council\, brings awareness to the shared mission and values of JCWC and Architectural Heritage Center:preservation for increased quality of life. \nJohnson Creek Watershed Council’s mission is to promote restoration and stewardship of a healthy watershed through sound science and community engagement. Matt reminds us that people take care of what they care about. \nFor decades\, Johnson Creek was thought of by many primarily as a flooding nuisance and eyesore.  Listen as Matt highlights the turnaround of this urban watershed into a community amenity. Due to the dedication and commitment of organizations like JCWC\, the enchantment of this watershed is available for all to enjoy and to be inspired by! \nThis dual presentation matches the visual beauty of urban natural landscapes with the heartfelt efforts to preserve them. Come experience what a treasure they are from Matt’s presentation\, and gaze upon their natural beauty in Gracie’s artistic interpretations. \n \n \n \n
