DESCRIPTION:REGISTRATION IS CLOSED\, PLEASE CHECK OUR CALENDAR FOR OTHER VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITITES\n\n\n\nRegistration is open for the 2024 Creek Crew cohort. Creek Crew Leaders are a HUGE piece of our restoration work at Johnson Creek! We work with thousands of volunteers each year and with a small staff\, we can’t function without the community support of volunteers like you to teach and lead in our restoration events! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThere is a two-part training required to join the 2024 Creek Crew cohort.  See “How do I Join” section below to register for the training.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen: \n\n\n\nOnline Webinar: Thursday January 4th 6 – 7:30pm \n\n\n\nIn-person Training: Saturday January 6th 10am-2:30pm with a 30 minute break for lunch (not provided) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhere: \n\n\n\nThursday Webinar: Zoom  \n\n\n\nSaturday In-person Training: Powell Butte Nature Park (directions emailed after completing the webinar) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat do Creek Crew Leaders do: \n\n\n\nCreek Crew leaders choose at least 4 volunteer days a year to help guide small groups of volunteers for our native plantings\, invasive species and trash removal parties throughout the year. Creek Crew Leaders work closely with staff members from partner organizations to co-lead events. They are also a crucial element of our larger events such as our Watershed Wide Event (in March) and the Johnson Creek Clean-Up (in August). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJCWC’s Creek Crew expands our capacity for facilitating restoration events throughout the year – we couldn’t do it without you! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhy be a Creek Crew Leader: \n\n\n\n\nHave fun outdoors with cool people!\n\n\n\nDevelop and practice leadership skills\n\n\n\nLearn about ecology and restoration practices \n\n\n\nGain familiarity with Pacific Northwest plant and animal species\n\n\n\nMake friends and professional connections from diverse backgrounds\n\n\n\nGet a reference for applications to college\, jobs\, or scholarships\n\n\n\nReceive sweet Johnson Creek swag\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho are Creek Crew Leaders:  \n\n\n\n\nA new or returning Johnson Creek Watershed Council volunteer\n\n\n\nOver 18 – OR – you are under 18 but paired with a parent or guardian as a Creek Crew team\n\n\n\nExcited to attend at least 4 volunteer events (especially Watershed Wide Event\, March 4th and/or Johnson Creek Cleanup in August)\n\n\n\nAble to fill out a PP&R code of conduct\, volunteer application\, and background check\n\n\n\n\n* We work on PP&R sites in much of our habitat enhancement. Wear sturdy\, close-toed shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring a filled water bottle and a lunch. \n\n\n\nHealth and Safety: We will follow current Oregon Health Authority guidelines. Masks are not required\, but encouraged in indoor spaces where social distancing is not possible. Stay home if you are experiencing symptoms of any contagious illness or have had recent contact with someone exhibiting symptoms of any illness. \n\n\n\nChildren unfortunately are not permitted: We recommend that all volunteers are over 18 for this role. If you are under 18 you are welcome to join if paired with a parent or guardian as a Creek Crew team for the training and all events.  \n\n\n\nAccessibility: This event may require standing for long periods\, walking over uneven ground\, going up or down steep slopes\, bending\, and lifting heavy objects.  \n\n\n\nDirections:A zoom link and directions will be emailed after you complete the required paperwork or make other arrangements.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA huge thank you to Portland Parks and Recreation for helping to organize this event and to our generous funders that make the volunteer program possible.
