SUMMARY:Habitat Enhancement at Tideman Johnson
DESCRIPTION:Join the Friends of Tideman Johnson Park and the Johnson Creek Watershed Council for a morning of stewardship and habitat enhancement! Tideman Johnson is a small but sweet park along Johnson Creek and the Springwater Corridor Trail in SE Portland. No experience necessary! \nCLICK HERE TO RSVP\nWhen: Saturday\, April 1st\,  9am-12 noon  \nWhere: Tideman Johnson City Park (directions below) \nWhat: Native plantings\, litter pickup\, and invasive weed removal. Tasks may shift as needs change on the site \nHow to prepare: This event will happen rain or shine\, so dress for the weather! Wear long thick pants\, a long-sleeved shirt\, and sturdy shoes you don’t mind getting muddy. Bring a raincoat or a hat and sunscreen\, as appropriate. Bring a filled water bottle and snacks! You’re welcome to bring gloves and tools\, if you want to use your own. \nWhat we provide: Gloves and all necessary tools\, and instruction on how to safely use tools and remove invasive weeds. We can also provide bus fare to and from the event. Please contact info@jcwc.org to arrange bus fare. \nHealth and Safety: We will follow current Oregon Health Authority guidelines. Masks are not required\, but encouraged in indoor spaces where social distancing is not possible. Stay home if you are experiencing symptoms of any contagious illness or have had recent contact with someone exhibiting symptoms of any illness. \nChildren are welcome: Children must be accompanied by an attentive adult. This work is around and near sharp prickly plants and can be challenging for young children. We recommend children ages 12 and up for this type of event. \nAccessibility: This event may require standing or squatting/kneeling for long periods of time\, walking over uneven ground\, bending and lifting heavy objects. Bathrooms are available for this event.  \nCLICK HERE TO RSVP\nDirections to site:  \nBy transit: Take Bus #75 to SE 45th/Nehalem\, then walk about half a mile west on SE Crystal Springs  Blvd. Turn south (left) onto 37th Street and go down a steep hill to the junction of the Springwater Corridor Trail and the Johnson Creek boardwalk Or take the MAX Orange Line to SE Tacoma/Johnson Creek and walk south along the Park & Ride lot to the Springwater Corridor Trail. Walk east on the Trail for a little under a mile to reach the junction with the Johnson Creek boardwalk. \nBy bike: follow the Springwater Corridor Trail to the junction with the Johnson Creek boardwalk. \nBy car: park near the intersection of 37th and Tenino Streets (please be respectful of our neighbors and do not block driveways or mailboxes). SUMMARY:Event Full: Depave event at Stonebridge Apartments
DESCRIPTION:Join us with our partners at Depave to remove 1\,500 square feet of impermeable asphalt from the parking lot at Stonebridge apartments\, who regularly have trouble with flooding on their lot. Our partners at Depave will train everyone on the best way to safely remove pavement for the day! No experience necessary! \nPre-registration is required\, we expect this event to fill quickly! \nCLICK HERE TO RSVP\nWhat: Removing 1\,500 sq ft of asphalt from the parking lot to help reduce flooding during the winter.  \nWhen: Saturday\, April 8th from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm \nWhere: Stonebridge Apartments\, 7733 SE 92nd Ave\, Portland\, OR 97266. Park at the Saint Mary’s Ethiopian Orthodox Church and walk next door to the Stonebridge Apartments. \nHow to prepare: This event will happen rain or shine\, so dress for weather: rain coat\, warm layers\, sun hat\, and sunscreen as necessary. Wear sturdy\, close-toed shoes\, long pants and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring a filled water bottle. \nWe will provide: Gloves\, and all necessary tools and instruction for the day. We can also provide bus fare to and from the event. Please contact monica@jcwc.org to arrange bus fare. We will also provide coffee\, snacks and a free lunch.  \nHealth and Safety: We will follow current Oregon Health Authority guidelines. DESCRIPTION:Join us in removing invasive weeds from the Leach Botanical Garden! This work helps to create new spaces and supports our collaborative Back 5 educational project. No experience necessary! \n  \nThe Leach Botanical Garden is a hidden gem in outer SE Portland. Beyond the manicured paths of the garden are several acres of forests and fields which have become overrun by Himalayan blackberry\, English ivy\, and other invasive weeds. The garden needs your help to become a healthy ecosystem again! \n  \nClick here to RSVP\n  \nWhat: Invasive species removal\, grubbing\, and weeding. \n  \nWhen: Wednesday\, February 8th\, 2023\, 9am-12pm \n  \nWhere: Leach Botanical Garden (see directions below) \n  \nWhat to bring: Bring a filled water bottle and snacks. (If you find yourself going down a steep hill you have gone too far!) Meet at the main entrance near the admissions kiosk.
