DESCRIPTION:Tour has reached maximum  capacity-however\, we are still taking RSVPs for the Science Talk.  \nJoin us for a Science Talk : \”Belly-Up to Willamette Falls; Prehistoric Lamprey in a Modern Landscape\”. \nPacific lamprey have survived for more than 500 million years – they were here before the dinosaurs. Lamprey are an important cultural food for Native Tribes in the region\, but their numbers have drastically declined. Join us for a tour of Willamette Falls followed by presentations on lamprey biology and recovery in the lower Willamette. \n5pm-7pm: Tour the Willamette Falls Legacy Project (meet at 99E and Main St.)  Must be 16 to take the tour. Tour is now full.  \n7pm-9pm: Science Talk at Trails End Saloon \nGuest speakers: \nCarson McVay is the Willamette Lamprey Biologist for the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs\, and runs the Willamette Falls Lamprey Monitoring Project. \nMichael Karnosh  began working for the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde in 1997 and is now the Ceded Lands Program Manager for their 20 million acres of Tribal homelands. Michael manages Tribal representation on environmental and cultural issues throughout the Tribe\’s ceded lands and other areas of cultural interest. DESCRIPTION:World Fish Migration Day 2014 (WFMD) on May 24th is a global initiative\, with local events worldwide\, to create awareness on the importance of open rivers and migratory fish. WFMD is held to improve the publics’ understanding of the importance of open rivers and migratory fish and their needs. \nLocally\, Johnson Creek Watershed Council will host a Science Talk on Lampreys on June 3rd\, along with a tour of Willamette Falls in partnership with the  Greater Oregon City Watershed Council. \nOn May 24th NOAA Fisheries West Coast Region is hosting an event at Bonneville Dam. The public will be able to tour the dam and learn how technical innovation has changed how juvenile and adult salmon migrate to and from the project. Juvenile Chinook salmon will be migrating this time of year\, providing the public with an opportunity to witness part of their remarkable journey. DESCRIPTION:The  JCWC Land Use Committee will meet  April 29th from 6pm-8pm at Oaks Bottom Public House (1621 SE Bybee Blvd.\, Portland). \nTopics of discussion are Milwaukie Urban Forestry and Damascus Comprehensive Planning update. \nJCWC would like to move forward with a stronger urban forestry management approach for the City of Milwaukie\, including obtaining  Tree City USA status. DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Clackamas REI Store for a group bike ride to a restoration work party. Once we arrive at our destination\, volunteers will remove invasive species along the Springwater Trail in outer SE Portland.  Bureau of Environmental Services staff member Ali Young will be meeting the riders at 10:30am to discuss the Luther Road restoration project they\’re performing there. Don\’t miss out on your chance to ask questions and learn about this great new feature for Johnson Creek. \nIf you want to just come for the work party\, that will be begin at 11:00am. At 1pm\, we’ll head back to REI. JCWC needs your help locally to fight back against non-native invasive ivy and blackberry. \nEnjoy and support the Springwater Corridor Trail\, a multi-use trail that circles the city of Portland\, while experiencing first-hand how fun and rewarding it is to revitalize our watershed. \nBring sturdy shoes\, boots and gloves if you have them; rain gear and boots are available for all volunteers upon request. Snacks and drinks will be provided for all volunteers\, but remember to bring a water bottle.
