SUMMARY:Habitat Enhancement at Leach Botanical Garden
DESCRIPTION:Join us in removing invasive weeds from the Leach Botanical Garden! This work helps to create new spaces and supports our collaborative Back 5 educational project. No experience necessary! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSince 2018 Johnson Creek Watershed Council has been working with a group of partners to restore 5 acres on the east side of Leach Botanical Garden that borders Johnson Creek. The partnership includes: Wisdom of the Elders\, Inc\, African Youth Community Organization\, The Blueprint Foundation\, David Douglas High School\, Leach Botanical Garden\, along with help from experts at Portland Parks and Recreation\, and many dedicated volunteers.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe created an awesome video and website to share what is going on with the project and partnership. You’re welcome to bring gloves and tools\, if you want to use your own. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat to wear: Dress for the weather! Wear long thick pants\, a long-sleeved shirt\, and sturdy\, close-toed shoes you don’t mind getting muddy. Bring a raincoat or a hat and sunscreen\, as appropriate.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat we provide: Gloves\, tools\, and instruction on how to safely use tools and remove invasive weeds. DESCRIPTION:Canceled due to weather!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr. Martin Luther King Junior dedicated his life to advancing civil rights and fighting racism and oppression. To honor his legacy\, we will be fundraising for BIPOC led organizations working for racial justice and leading a habitat enhancement event at Powell Butte.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe know that groups and individuals often look for service opportunities on Dr. MLK Jr. day\, and our organization has long held an event on this day of service. If you would like to participate\, we encourage everyone to volunteer AND DONATE to a BIPOC led group working for racial justice. We recognize that people have different abilities to donate. Large or small\, your donation will help these organizations to address the most prevalent challenges in their community and continue the legacy of Dr King. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNot sure who to support? DESCRIPTION:Join us in removing invasive weeds from the Leach Botanical Garden! This work helps to create new spaces and supports our collaborative Back 5 educational project. No experience necessary! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSince 2018 Johnson Creek Watershed Council has been working with a group of partners to restore 5 acres on the east side of Leach Botanical Garden that borders Johnson Creek. The partnership includes: Wisdom of the Elders\, Inc\, African Youth Community Organization\, The Blueprint Foundation\, David Douglas High School\, Leach Botanical Garden\, along with help from experts at Portland Parks and Recreation\, and many dedicated volunteers.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe created an awesome video and website to share what is going on with the project and partnership. DESCRIPTION:Save the date for Johnson Creek Watershed Council’s most unified restoration event of the year! The Watershed Wide Event is happening Saturday\, March 2nd from 8:45am -12noon. We will spread out at 10 simultaneous work parties throughout the watershed. Stick around at the end for a free lunch.Johnson Creek is a unique waterway\, providing home and habitat to lots of special wildlife and a lot of human communities. This event is a great time to come together and care for the creek and watershed as we weed\, plant and mulch helping to restore a healthier watershed.  For the past 28 years\, JCWC has been proud to participate in a community dedicated to restoring\, repairing\, and cleaning Johnson Creek. Be a part of the legacy!  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPLEASE RSVP. Site choices are below. There will be an initial presentation on featured lichens that we’ll likely find on the subsequent walk around the natural area. \n\n\n\nRuth Williams is a consulting arborist and plant enthusiast with degrees in Horticulture and Landscape Architecture from UC Davis. She has been drawing and painting plants for 20 years. She teaches and guides interpretive hikes on a wide variety of ecological subjects. \n\n\n\nREGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. DESCRIPTION:Join us in removing invasive weeds from the Leach Botanical Garden! This work helps to create new spaces and supports our collaborative Back 5 educational project. No experience necessary! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSince 2018 Johnson Creek Watershed Council has been working with a group of partners to restore 5 acres on the east side of Leach Botanical Garden that borders Johnson Creek. The partnership includes: Wisdom of the Elders\, Inc\, African Youth Community Organization\, The Blueprint Foundation\, David Douglas High School\, Leach Botanical Garden\, along with help from experts at Portland Parks and Recreation\, and many dedicated volunteers.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe created an awesome video and website to share what is going on with the project and partnership. DESCRIPTION:Join us as we partner with the City of Gresham to enhance the ecosystem around Johnson Creek! In honor of Earth Day\, we’ll work at the 7th St Bridge site\, which is located near Eastman Parkway and the Springwater corridor trail. The City of Gresham and volunteers planted hundreds of native trees and shrubs here; now it’s time to mulch them! Mulch acts as an insulator\, retains water\, keeps plant competition at bay and protects from erosion. SUMMARY:Habitat Enhancement with Crystal Springs Partnership
DESCRIPTION:This project was started in 2018 with grant funds from the city of Portland that were awarded when Crystal Springs was designated the first urban Salmon Sanctuary! \n\n\n\nClick here to RSVP\n\n\n\nWhen: Sunday\, April 28th\, 9:00 am – 12:00 noon  \n\n\n\nWhere: Eastmoreland Golf Course – 2425 SE Bybee Blvd. The site is just north of the driving range\, park behind the clubhouse where we will gather to walk to the site \n\n\n\nWhat:  Invasive weed removal and mulching. Tasks may shift as needs change on the site. \n\n\n\nHow to prepare: This event will happen rain or shine\, so dress for the weather! Wear long thick pants\, a long-sleeved shirt\, and sturdy shoes you don’t mind getting muddy. Bring a raincoat or a hat and sunscreen\, as appropriate. Bring a filled water bottle and snacks! You’re welcome to bring gloves and tools\, if you want to use your own. \n\n\n\nWhat we provide: Tools\, and instruction on how to safely use tools and remove invasive weeds and spread mulch . We can also provide bus fare to and from the event. Please contact info@jcwc.org to arrange bus fare. \n\n\n\nHealth and Safety: We will follow current Oregon Health Authority guidelines. Masks are not required\, but encouraged in indoor spaces where social distancing is not possible. Tideman Johnson is a small but sweet park along Johnson Creek and the Springwater Corridor Trail in SE Portland. No experience necessary! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCLICK HERE TO RSVP\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen: Saturday\,  May 4th\,  9:30 am-12:30 pm  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhere: Tideman Johnson City Park (directions below) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat: Native plantings\, litter pickup\, and invasive weed removal. Walk east on the Trail for a little under a mile to reach the junction with the Johnson Creek boardwalk. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBy bike: follow the Springwater Corridor Trail to the junction with the Johnson Creek boardwalk. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBy car: park near the intersection of 37th and Tenino Streets (please be respectful of our neighbors and do not block driveways or mailboxes). SUMMARY:Habitat Enhancement at Leach Botanical Garden
DESCRIPTION:Join us in removing invasive weeds from the Leach Botanical Garden! This work helps to create new spaces and supports our collaborative Back 5 educational project. No experience necessary! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSince 2018 Johnson Creek Watershed Council has been working with a group of partners to restore 5 acres on the east side of Leach Botanical Garden that borders Johnson Creek. The partnership includes: Wisdom of the Elders\, Inc\, African Youth Community Organization\, The Blueprint Foundation\, David Douglas High School\, Leach Botanical Garden\, along with help from experts at Portland Parks and Recreation\, and many dedicated volunteers.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe created an awesome video and website to share what is going on with the project and partnership. SUMMARY:Wildflower Walk for the Deaf Community
DESCRIPTION:Spring is a beautiful time to view wildflowers and nesting birds at Powell Butte Nature Park. Join us as we partner with Portland Parks & Recreation for a Wildflower Walk at Powell Butte for members of the Deaf Community on Saturday\, May 11th\, 10:00AM-12noon. We’ll walk a paved path near the visitor center at Powell Butte to view the wildflowers and birds. An interpreter is provided\, along with visual guides. We are working to revegetate areas that were disturbed during the recent construction.
