SUMMARY:Habitat Enhancement at Tideman Johnson
DESCRIPTION:Join the Friends of Tideman Johnson Park and the Johnson Creek Watershed Council for a morning of stewardship and habitat enhancement! Tideman Johnson is a small but sweet park along Johnson Creek and the Springwater Corridor Trail in SE Portland. No experience necessary! \nRSVP HERE!\nWhen: Saturday\, December 3rd\,  9am-12pm(first Saturday of the month) \nWhere: Tideman Johnson City Park (directions below) \nTask: Native plantings\, litter pickup\, and invasive weed removal. Tasks may shift as needs change on the site \nWhat to wear: dress for the weather! Wear long thick pants\, a long-sleeved shirt\, and sturdy shoes you don’t mind getting muddy. Bring a raincoat or a hat and sunscreen\, as appropriate. \nWhat to bring: a mask is required when 6-foot social distancing cannot be maintained. Bring a filled water bottle and snacks. You’re welcome to bring gloves and tools\, if you want to use your own. \nWhat we provide: gloves\, tools\, and instruction on how to safely use tools and remove invasive weeds. \nChildren are welcome but must be accompanied by an attentive adult. This work is around and near sharp prickly plants and can be challenging for young children. We recommend children ages 12 and up for this type of event. \nRSVP HERE!\nDIRECTIONS TO SITE \nBy transit: Take Bus #75 to SE 45th/Nehalem\, then walk about half a mile west on SE Crystal Springs  Blvd. Turn south (left) onto 37th Street and go down a steep hill to the junction of the Springwater Corridor Trail and the Johnson Creek boardwalk Or take the MAX Orange Line to SE Tacoma/Johnson Creek and walk south along the Park & Ride lot to the Springwater Corridor Trail. Walk east on the Trail for a little under a mile to reach the junction with the Johnson Creek boardwalk. \nBy bike: follow the Springwater Corridor Trail to the junction with the Johnson Creek boardwalk. \nBy car: park near the intersection of 37th and Tenino Streets (please be respectful of our neighbors and do not block driveways or mailboxes). DESCRIPTION:Join us in removing invasive weeds from the Leach Botanical Garden! This work helps to create new spaces and supports our collaborative Back 5 educational project. No experience necessary! \nThe Leach Botanical Garden is a hidden gem in outer SE Portland. Beyond the manicured paths of the garden are several acres of forests and fields which have become overrun by Himalayan blackberry\, English ivy\, and other invasive weeds. The garden needs your help to become a healthy ecosystem again! \nRSVP HERE!\nWhat: Invasive species removal\, grubbing\, and weeding. \nWhen: Wednesday\, December 14th\, 2022\, 9am-12pm \nWhere: Leach Botanical Garden (see directions below) \nWhat to bring: Bring a filled water bottle and snacks. (If you find yourself going down a steep hill you have gone too far!) Meet at the main entrance near the admissions kiosk. SUMMARY:Habitat Enhancement on the Springwater Trail Corridor
DESCRIPTION:Errol Heights Park is being re-imagined! Construction is currently happening\, and the goal is that sometime late next year we will be able to enjoy the new amenities of the Park: ADA-accessible trails\, nature play area\, Portland “loo” (bathroom)\, picnic tables\, basketball court\, and more! Check it out: Errol Heights Park Project | Portland.gov. In the meantime\, staff\, volunteers and members of the public are not allowed in the Park because of construction zone safety concerns. So what are friends of Errol Heights to do\, as we wait for the unveiling of the new Park??  Join Portland Parks & Recreation\,  Johnson Creek Watershed Council (JCWC) and the Friends of Errol Heights to enhance and clean up a nearby Park area: the Springwater Corridor trail! \n  \nCLICK HERE TO RSVP\n  \nWhat: Volunteers will be planting some large trees\, removing nuisance plant species\, and picking up trash and removing graffiti to beautify this space that is directly adjacent to Johnson Creek.  Keep your eye out for salmon\, ducks\, and other wildlife as you volunteer alongside other community members. \n  \nWhen: Saturday\, December 17th\, from 9am-12 noon \n  \nWhere: Springwater Corridor Trail at 45th Ave (see directions below) \n  \nHow to prepare: This event will happen rain or shine\, so dress for weather: rain coat\, warm layers\, sun hat\, and sunscreen as necessary. Wear sturdy shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring a filled water bottle and a snack. \n  \nWe will provide: Gloves\, all necessary tools and instruction. We can also provide bus fare to and from the event. Please contact marissa@jcwc.org to arrange bus fare. \n  \nCovid-19 safety: We will follow current Oregon Health Authority guidelines. Masks are not required\, but encouraged in indoor spaces where social distancing is not possible. Stay home if you are experiencing symptoms of any contagious illness or have had recent contact with someone exhibiting symptoms of any illness. \n  \nChildren are permitted: Children are welcome at this event if accompanied by an attentive adult. \n  \nAccessibility: This event may require standing or squatting/kneeling for long periods of time\, walking over uneven ground\, bending and lifting heavy objects.
