DESCRIPTION:Join the Friends of Tideman Johnson Park and the Johnson Creek Watershed Council for a morning of stewardship and habitat enhancement! Tideman Johnson is a small but sweet park along Johnson Creek and the Springwater Corridor Trail in SE Portland. No experience necessary! \nCLICK HERE TO RSVP\nWhen: Saturday\, April 1st\,  9am-12 noon  \nWhere: Tideman Johnson City Park (directions below) \nWhat: Native plantings\, litter pickup\, and invasive weed removal. Tasks may shift as needs change on the site \nHow to prepare: This event will happen rain or shine\, so dress for the weather! Wear long thick pants\, a long-sleeved shirt\, and sturdy shoes you don’t mind getting muddy. Bring a raincoat or a hat and sunscreen\, as appropriate. Bring a filled water bottle and snacks! You’re welcome to bring gloves and tools\, if you want to use your own. \nWhat we provide: Gloves and all necessary tools\, and instruction on how to safely use tools and remove invasive weeds. Walk east on the Trail for a little under a mile to reach the junction with the Johnson Creek boardwalk. \nBy bike: follow the Springwater Corridor Trail to the junction with the Johnson Creek boardwalk. \nBy car: park near the intersection of 37th and Tenino Streets (please be respectful of our neighbors and do not block driveways or mailboxes). DESCRIPTION:Join us with our partners at Depave to remove 1\,500 square feet of impermeable asphalt from the parking lot at Stonebridge apartments\, who regularly have trouble with flooding on their lot. Our partners at Depave will train everyone on the best way to safely remove pavement for the day! No experience necessary! \nPre-registration is required\, we expect this event to fill quickly! \nCLICK HERE TO RSVP\nWhat: Removing 1\,500 sq ft of asphalt from the parking lot to help reduce flooding during the winter.  \nWhen: Saturday\, April 8th from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm \nWhere: Stonebridge Apartments\, 7733 SE 92nd Ave\, Portland\, OR 97266. Park at the Saint Mary’s Ethiopian Orthodox Church and walk next door to the Stonebridge Apartments. \nHow to prepare: This event will happen rain or shine\, so dress for weather: rain coat\, warm layers\, sun hat\, and sunscreen as necessary. Wear sturdy\, close-toed shoes\, long pants and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring a filled water bottle. \nWe will provide: Gloves\, and all necessary tools and instruction for the day. The geology of the Portland Basin cradles Johnson Creek — from headwaters in our youngest geologic deposits\, westward through the oldest rocks in the metro area — and shapes the watershed’s hydrology.  \nGrab a pint at Double Mountain Brewery and dive into the Geology of the Portland Basin and Johnson Creek Watershed with Paul Edison-Lahm\, Communications Director for the Geological Society of the Oregon Country. Paul and his wife Peregrine have been JCWC volunteers since 2010 and live in the watershed just blocks from the JCWC offices. \nThis event is free to attend\, but please be prepared to purchase a drink and/or food to support Double Mountain Brewing. Thank you DMB for hosting us!! \n  \nEvent is full. Registration is required. Please do not attend if you have not registered.\n  \nWhat: Geology of Johnson Creek Pub Talk  \nWhen: Tuesday\, April 25th\, 5:30pm-7:30pm. DESCRIPTION:Please join Portland Parks and Recreation and the Crystal Springs Partnership for a Stewardship Day at Brannen Natural Area! Tending to this important natural area will positively impact the health of Crystal Springs Creek and the surrounding habitat. \nRegistration is required. Please register here.\nWhat: We will be cutting blackberry\, pruning trees and shrubs\, and spreading mulch around new native plants. \nWhen: Wednesday\, April 26th\, 2023 from 9am-12pm \nWhere: Brannen Property Natural Area\, 8220 SE 21st Ave\, Portland. The corner of SE 21st Ave and SE Umatilla St. (MAP) \nHow to Prepare: No experience necessary! Wear thick pants\, a long sleeve shirt\, and sturdy\, close-toed shoes. Dress for the weather and bring a full water bottle. We will provide coffee\, snacks\, tools\, gloves\, and instruction. \nWho: Everyone! Children are welcome but must be accompanied and supervised by an adult for the duration of the event. We encourage you to attend events with members of your household/family! \nAccessibility: Some of the site is accessed by climbing over a ~3ft tall split rail fence. The area is mostly flat with tall grasses.
