SUMMARY:Science in the Park
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a morning of fun scientific exploration in the park. This year we are learning about what is in the Johnson Creek Watershed! We’ll have interactive stations about salmon\, insects and more! This event is great for elementary and pre-k age kids to discover what kinds of things contribute to a healthy watershed. \nParticipants will learn about First Foods\, participate in a salmon lifecycle obstacle course\, observe macroinvertebrates\, build a pinecone birdfeeder and create colorful craft dragonflies. \nWe’re also teaming up with SOLVE for a morning clean up from 9am-11am! \nRSVP not required\, but encouraged. RSVP here!\nWhen: Saturday\, September 27th\, 10:00am-12:00pm. Arrive early to participate in SOLVE’s clean up from 9-11am! \nWhere: Mill Park\, 6201 SE Overland St\, Milwaukie\, OR 97222 (directions below) \nWhat: Science in the Park \nHow to prepare: Bring a filled water bottle and some snacks! Feel free to bring a blanket or chairs to sit out on the grass. \nWhat we provide: Instruction and materials. We can also provide bus fare to and from the event. Please contact sima@jcwc.org to arrange bus fare. \nHealth and Safety: We will follow current Oregon Health Authority guidelines. Masks are not required\, but encouraged in indoor spaces where social distancing is not possible. Stay home if you are experiencing symptoms of any contagious illness or have had recent contact with someone exhibiting symptoms of any illness. \nChildren are encouraged to attend! This event is great for elementary and pre-k age kids. \nAccessibility: This event may require standing or squatting/kneeling for long periods of time. An ADA portable bathroom is available for this event. \nDirections: There is more than one Mill Park in the Portland area\, so make sure you’re coming to the right one! Closest street address: 6201 SE Overland St\, Milwaukie\, OR 97222 \nBy transit: Take the MAX Orange Line to SE Tacoma/Johnson Creek\, then transfer to Bus #34 (Clackamas Town Center). Get off at the 9700 Block of SE Linwood and walk 2 blocks north on SE Linwood Ave\, then turn east on SE Overland St to reach the park. \nBy bike: Take the Springwater Corridor Trail to SE Linwood Ave. Turn south onto SE Linwood Ave\, then east onto SE Overland St to reach the park. \nBy car: From north of Johnson Creek\, take SE Johnson Creek Blvd to SE Linwood Ave/SE Flavel Dr. Turn south onto SE Linwood Ave\, then east onto SE Overland St to reach the park. From south of Johnson Creek\, take SE King Road and turn north on SE Linwood Ave. After half a mile\, turn east onto SE Overland St to reach the park. \nRSVP not required\, but encouraged.
