SUMMARY:Habitat Enhancement at Errol Heights
DESCRIPTION:Join the Friends of Errol Heights\, Johnson Creek Watershed Council\, and Portland Parks & Recreation at the newly renovated Errol Heights Park for a morning of stewardship! We are working to revegetate areas that were disturbed during the recent construction. This park is home to a plethora of wildlife including beaver\, woodpeckers\, ducks\, and dragonflies! \n\n\n\nCLICK HERE TO RSVP\n\n\n\nWhat: Errol Heights Habitat Enhancement projects include weeding\, planting\, mulching\, and trash pick-up. These needs will change month to month. \n\n\n\nWhen: Saturday\, October 19th\, from 9:30 am – 12:30pm \n\n\n\nWhere: Errol Heights City Park (directions emailed after registration). \n\n\n\nWhat to bring: Bring a filled water bottle and snacks. You’re welcome to bring gloves and tools\, if you want to use your own.   \n\n\n\nWhat to wear: Dress for the weather! Wear long\, thick pants\, a long-sleeved shirt\, and sturdy\, close-toed shoes you don’t mind getting muddy. Bring a raincoat or a hat and sunscreen\, as appropriate. \n\n\n\nWe will provide: Gloves\, and all necessary tools\, plus coffee and snacks. We can also provide bus fare to and from the event. Please contact info@jcwc.org to arrange bus fare. \n\n\n\nChildren are welcome but must be accompanied by an attentive adult. This work is around and near prickly plants and can be challenging for young children. We recommend children ages 10 and up for this type of event. \n\n\n\nHealth and Safety: We will follow current Oregon Health Authority guidelines. Masks are not required\, but encouraged in indoor spaces where social distancing is not possible. SUMMARY:No Ivy Day at Leach Botanical Garden
DESCRIPTION:Johnson Creek Watershed Council and Leach Botanical Garden are teaming up for the city-wide No Ivy Day this year! Volunteers will spend the morning in the Back 5 Community Habitat Enhancement Project area at Leach Botanical Garden removing English ivy from the riparian zones and off trees to make room for native species.   \n\n\n\nJohnson Creek Watershed Council\, together with Leach Garden\, Wisdom of the Elders\, the Blueprint Foundation\, David Douglas High School\, the African Youth & Community Organization\, and experts from Portland Parks & Recreation\, Portland Bureau of Environmental Services and many dedicated volunteers are restoring several acres to healthy habitat – all without the use of herbicides. The project provides hands-on educational and community science opportunities\, with an emphasis on historically disenfranchised youth and adults. In addition to restoration steps\, we assess and analyze change through surveys of plants\, amphibians and macroinvertebrates. \n\n\n\nThe Back 5 is a habitat restoration project in progress and not currently open to the public. Volunteers will be hiking and working off-trail on uneven ground. Please dress for the weather\, wear sturdy\, closed-toed shoes\, and bring a water bottle.  Instruction\, tools\, gloves\, water and snacks will be provided. If the parking lots at the main address are full\, Leach will open the lower Creekside lot located at 6739 SE122nd.
