Tideman Johnson Nature Event May 1st- Saturday

Join us for a combination event with both litter clean up, nuisance species removal and also for the first time in Portland- The City Nature Challenge data collection. Johnson Creek Watershed Council, Portland Parks & Recreation and Friends of Tideman Johnson are teaming up to bring you this event!

9am-11am Habitat Enhancement at Tideman Johnson: Nuisance weed removal, mulching, and litter patrol! The tasks may shift as needs change on the site.

11am- 1pm City Nature Challenge: Explore areas and get special access to parts of the park that is currently closed to the public, identify species using iNaturalist App on your phone and learn about local plants. This portion of the event will be go at your own pace with staff available to help you download, use and learn how to add sightings to the City Nature Challenge. Staff will be available to assist and guide folks but this is not a tour [and there is no requirement] to stay the whole time.

No experience necessary! Wear long thick pants, a long-sleeved shirt and sturdy shoes. Bring a face covering, water bottle, personal snacks, rain gear, warm clothes and a sunhat. Instruction, tools, gloves provided. If you have your own gloves and gear please bring them. Children welcome, and must be accompanied by an attentive adult.

Address and detailed parking information will be shared with you after you are registered for the event.


COVID-19 Protocol:

    • All volunteers will:
      • Complete a health screening (Currently available through a Health Assessment Survey. If individuals or anyone in their household are exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms or experiencing any symptom of a contagious illness, they are required to stay home.
  • Bring your own gloves, tools and hand sanitizer, if possible. Tools and gloves will be available for your use, if needed
  • Bring and wear face coverings during the entire event or whenever within 20 feet of another individual. Face coverings will be provided to volunteers who don’t bring their own.
    • Abide by 6-foot physical distancing at all times, or additional distance if physical exertion results in heavy breathing.

Bring food and water needed for the duration of the event. We are not providing shared food items due to COVID-19.
