Magical Mushroom/Lichen/Moss Survey

We had more than 50 volunteers meet up at Powell Butte Nature Park for our Lichen, Mosses, and Mushrooms survey on November 5th.

There were 10 experts to help lead 10 different groups to survey different areas of the park for various species of lichen, mosses, and mushrooms.

We used iNaturalist, an online social network for uploading, collaborating, and sharing biodiversity information.

So far, we have 140 observations with 66 different species! The most common species were pixie cup lichen, beard lichen, and sulphur tuft mushrooms. You can check out our project, see lots of pictures, and get more info on identified species HERE.

Thank you to our partners and leaders at Portland Parks and Recreation, Oregon State University, Portland State University, the Oregon Mycological Society, and our sponsors at East Multnomah Soil and Water Conservation District and City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services. It was a wonderful rainy day full of exploring and learning more about our watershed on a deeper level.
