On November 1st, Johnson Creek Watershed Council and the City of Gresham joined forces to host a land tending event on the Springwater Trail between Walters Drive and 7th ave in Gresham. We call this site the Walters site and it has been host to our last two Watershed Wide Events in Gresham. While the weather was windy and rainy, a few stalwart volunteers came out to get muddy and have fun planting native plants.
Last spring, 84 3rd grade students from Hollydale Elementary repotted live willow and red osier dogwood stakes in pots. The City of Gresham stored these plants and they thrived over the last seven months! With a very low attrition rate, Gresham provided these plants for the land tending event. Overall, volunteers and staff planted 200 plants at the Walters site.
A big thanks to the City of Gresham and our dedicated volunteers for bringing this event to fruition!
